Announcing Scripture Sundays! Join Us!

Brothers

You may have noticed the addition of "Scripture Sunday" on the side panel. This space is a place for us to gather as brothers and share how the Lord has spoken to us through the scriptures that we all gather around each Sunday as we approach the Lord's table.

One of my favorite passages in sacred scripture comes from the Gospel of Luke 24, where Cleopas (the brother of St. Joseph) is on the road to Emmaus with another unnamed disciple. The scripture recounts their interaction with the risen Lord, who at the time was unknown to them. As they journey with him, Jesus unpacks the scriptures for them - "beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." This encounter with Christ on the road to Emmaus is a model for the mass, where Holy mother Church leads us through the scriptures beginning with the law and the prophets (a shorthand for the Old Testament) and culminating in the Gospel reading. As we carefully consder / the "things concerning himself" in the scriptures, we can, like Cleopas and the other disciple" approach the table of the Lord with "burning hearts" that are ready to receive him.
