Heroic Word goes beyond this Social Network
Brothers,
Last night, we held the first of our weekly Gospel reflections. It was a gathering of men centered around the Scriptures. We began by inviting the Holy Spirit to be with us, then we listened attentively to the reading of the Gospel (which we read and listened to twice) and shared the unique ways in which the Spirit was moving within us. It was a powerful time.
Earlier in the day, I’d had a strange encounter. I was sitting on the island of Broadway getting some reading in when a random female passerby asked me if I knew what the best book ever written was. I replied saying that I did. And she responded by saying, “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth,” a popular reference the B.I.B.L.E. in acronym form. We engaged in a conversation in which, over time, it became apparent to me that this woman had some loose screws and that there was a deep darkness in her. It also became apparent to me that she was in some sort of sexual bondage and that she was trying to get me to respond romantically to her. I shared about my Catholic faith and invited her to encounter our Lord at Mass. She was open. You can pray for her - her name is Gwen.
In this week’s Gospel readings Jesus talks about Satan and says, “no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man.” This woman had an appearance of devotion because she recognized “the greatest book ever written.” But it was clear that she had not let the Savior in to bind the “strong man.”
Brothers, Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. Will you let him in and deliver you in the place where you have bondage?
Join us next Thursday at 8:30pm EST for our next Gospel Reflection. Join the space for regular updates.
