An Invitation: Scripture Memorization + Meditation
Brothers,
This Sunday’s Gospel reading is incredibly powerful. Praise be to the Holy Trinity, and particular shout out to the Holy Spirit for the way He shows up when we listen with open hearts. One of the things we see is that every single of one Jesus’s responses to the enemy in the desert involves the recitation of sacred Scripture as a weapon against his temptations. In doing this, Jesus incarnates a practice articulated by David in the Psalms, where he writes, “I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
I want to take this opportune moment to promote an Emmaus Journey resource called the Catholic Topical Memory System. I have included an article that I wrote on it a while back on the topic. Last year, we did a couple of Online Memory Cohorts and we are planning to do another round. The date has yet to be set and will likely be after Easter, but I wanted to send this email to gauge interest among you men.
If you’re interested, please fill this form out and I’ll include you in communications about this.
Thanks, and God bless you on your continued Lenten Journey!
