Some of you may know, some may not, but for a while my wife and I were trying for another baby, and by the grace of God, she finally got pregnant. We didn’t want to share the news until everything was certain, but sadly, we had a miscarriage. It was heartbreaking, especially for us as a family. Our 12-year-old felt the weight of the news, but our 8-year-old showed me a beautiful example of childlike innocence and faith. While I was sitting in the living room watching television, randomly he excitedly said he was going to teach the baby how to do a flip. It was then I had to explain that there wasn’t going to be a baby, at least not right now. He just smiled and said, “It’s okay, Dad, at least we have this baby right here,” pointing to our dog Milo. His pure heart and innocent perspective reminded me of how Jesus calls us to be like children. In Matthew 18:3, He said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Their innocence, faith, and ability to find joy even in difficult times is something we can all learn from. Let us strive to embrace that same purity, trust in God’s plan, and find blessings in the moments we are given.
